Redbridge Cottage, a bailiff’s home on the original Longleat Estate, dating from 1390, is a medieval property that has been lovingly updated for the 21st century and has featured on Escape to the Country. Equipped to an exceptional standard, mixing the ancient with the modern, timber framed, inglenooks, and limestone elevations under pantile rooves combined with luxury bathrooms, underfloor heating, air-conditioning and entertainment facilities. In a building where previous occupants cooked on an open hearth and made themselves cosy in the ‘solar’, there is now space and comfort. Five reception rooms along with spacious kitchen, shower room and utility make up the ground floor, while upstairs there are four bedrooms with a family bathroom and a galleried attic. Completing the property is a large cinema room with projector and surround sound. Outside is a true rural retreat with half an acre of garden with barbecue, seating, swings and playhouse and surrounded by fields, yet in walking distance to the local pub.
Standerwick mentioned in the Domesday Book remains a compact settlement on the Somerset/Wiltshire boarder straddling the A36. It is some 20 minutes from Bath and 40 minutes from Salisbury.
