The Toll House is a delightful red-brick, period cottage that has been recently refurbished to create a charming family holiday home only ten minutes level walk from the famous fossil beach in the seaside village of Charmouth. Charmouth has a small selection of shops as well as a couple of pubs, cafes and restaurants. The Charmouth Heritage Coast Centre on the seafront provides a wealth of information about local geology and fossil collecting. The village is also a great location for walkers; the South West Coast footpath and a network of inland footpaths can allow visitors to explore the stunning West Dorset coast and countryside. There are also regular bus routes running through the village along the Jurassic coast. The Toll House is adjacent to the site of the large and popular outdoor Charmouth Market (Whitsun Monday until end of September) and also the site of the local traveling fairground, resident from mid July to mid August. The fairground operates daily from 7pm until 10pm for the first five weeks of the main school summer holidays only.
The Toll House, as its name suggests, is closely tied to the history of the village, being one of a series of toll houses that stood along the route of the Great Western Turnpike dating from the 1700's. Now fully refurbished with a modern kitchen, bathroom and separate shower room, this two-bedroom cottage provides comfortable and spacious accommodation for families or couples. There is a large garden with lawn and children's play area and off-road parking for two cars. Well-behaved dogs are welcome.
