Close by is the attractive Victorian spa town of Llandrindod Wells and the Royal Welsh Showground at Builth Wells. Rhayader with its regular livestock markets and spectacular Red Kite feeding station (daily), pottery, Welsh Royal Crystal factory and leisure centre with indoor pool and fitness suite. Bustling Hereford's cathedral with its chained library and the Mappa Mundi draws visitors from all over the world. The book town of Hay-on-Wye with its international literary festival (in May) is close by. For children there is an indoor play barn and adventure park, a small breeds farm, an indoor activity centre, cycle hire or pony trekking. Eat well in the numerous public houses and restaurants with fine cuisine or choose from the variety of take away houses. This is a superb location for touring the heart of Wales, with the bonus that the dolphins of Cardigan Bay and the golden sands of the Gower and Aberdovey are within a day trip.

Local Area
The Elan Valley is a spectacular chain of artificial lakes created to supply water to Birmingham. Its massive dams have a Victorian grandeur that makes them worthy of a visit in their own right, while the remote countryside is a haven for wildlife. The Brecon Beacons, comprising no less than four mountain ranges, are also within easy reach of our holiday cottages in Powys. The landscape here varies from open country to limestone gorges and is ideal for fishing, ponytrekking, caving and walking.
In contrast, there's Hay-on-Wye, famous for its annual literary festival and with more than 30 bookshops to browse. The leafy Wye Valley offers some stunning scenery and is a favourite with walkers. Or why not step back in time at the Victorian spa town of Llandrindod Wells. The Victorian festival here sees the residents donning period costume to celebrate their 19th century heyday.
